Hello, friends, and welcome to Building West Carolina. We’re honored that you’ve taken a few minutes out of your busy day to sit a spell with us.
First, let me (Katie) be totally honest and let y’all know that I’m TERRIFIED to share this massive family secret of ours. Like, shaking in my boots, scared. Why? Because I fear failure and ridicule. However, feel the fear and do it anyway, so, here goes…
We’re building a wedding venue. Not just any wedding venue, but a Boutique Wedding Plantation. WHAT?! Who does that in Southern California? We do.
If you follow my photography blog or my private Instagram account, you’ve likely seen me allude to something big, and seen images of our quiet land search every few weekends. I was pretty brave when I put it out there publicly during this interview back in November 2015.
I’m sure the questions are swirling in your head right about now so let me just get down to a few basics….
When I say “building”, I don’t actually mean literally constructing the Plantation just yet. I mean aggressively chasing this dream, paying off debt, saving every penny, narrowing down house plans, dragging our kids all over Southern California and walking every piece of land within our proposed budget to find the perfect spot for our forever dream. We’re hoping to find our land and break ground within 1 year.
I’ll be using this blog to document our journey to West Carolina and to keep y’all updated with our progress, set backs, struggles and triumphs. I’ll share more about the name, the why, the when we knew this was it, all of it. For now, we need a few things from YOU.
- PRAYER – will you please pray for me and Scott? We need wisdom in our decision making, God’s provision in our finances, and grace for each other. It turns out that building a Plantation can be stressful for a marriage and we haven’t even broken ground yet 🙂
- CONVERSATION – we would really love support from our friends and family in the form of just simply checking in on our journey. When you see us, please encourage us and ask us how it’s going. We also might need a hug every now and again, too.
- LAND – we’ve searched the Coachella Valley for appropriate land within our budget and it turns out, it’s difficult to come by. If you would like to sell a nice family your land, or if you know someone who doesn’t need at least 3 acres of their own land, we would love to speak with you. We desire to stay where we are, but are open to the possibility of moving outside the valley.
That’s all for now. Thank you for stopping by!
